Pioneering growth and innovation: New technology at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center to enhance patient care

Helen K. Spears Cancer Center in Grants Pass has a new linear accelerator. This state-of-the-art technology was nearly 100% funded through donations and uses precise radiotherapy to target cancerous tumors.

“This new technology will dramatically reduce treatment timelines for patients, as well as meet the growing demand for these services throughout our region,” said Dr. Mujahid Rizvi, Heimann Medical Chair of Oncology and Medical Director for Asante Cancer Centers. “This means a better experience for our patients during a challenging time in their lives.”

Donors and employees recently celebrated the arrival of the TrueBeam (linear accelerator) with a touching ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“It’s remarkable to see how our community’s support helped bring this vision to life,” said Andrea Reeder, Senior Vice President and Chief Philanthropy Officer for Asante. “These gifts enabled us to expand access and enhance the lives of the 2,000+ people in our region who face cancer every year.”

In addition to innovation at Spears Cancer Center, Three Rivers is now home to the region’s most advanced da Vinci Surgical System and is the second hospital in the state to introduce this technology. The new da Vinci 5 establishes Three Rivers’ minimally invasive robotics surgery program.

“Introducing a robotics surgery program at Three Rivers represents a significant step forward in how we can serve our community,” said Patrick Sharp, CEO of the hospital. “This enables us to perform complex procedures with greater precision and shorter recovery times, allowing our patients to heal faster and return to their lives sooner. We’re proud to bring this advancement to Josephine County and beyond, ensuring access to the best possible care close to home.”

These new devices will improve access to full service cancer treatment and minimally invasive surgical services.
